Children's Land

Today we picked up another green spot on our map and took a train there. The spot turned out to be Kodomo-no-kuni, Children's Land. It was a nice place to go and V enjoyed himself.

Make a Japanese Tourist Happy

A big Japanese holiday week is starting - the Golden Week. It's very common for locals to travel somewhere during this week. So, you might see large groups of Japanese tourists where you live, taking pictures of everything you thought was boring and every-day-like. If they happen to have their kids with them, say "konnichiwa" (hello - and don't forget to bow a little) then look at the kid and say "kawai" (cute).

Missing Picture

The kid took his first nap on the bicycle today. It looked quite uncomfortable, but he slept well.

Damn - I should have taken a picture of it.

Who Wants to Listen to Moomin Music Anyway?

Sometimes the kid begins to like some cd I happen to like: that delights me... until he has wanted to listen to it over and over again about million times. Then I somehow manage to loose my intrest to that CD. Does that mean the CD wasn't good enough?

Hair Cut

My hair is very short now, like it was about seven years ago... Oh well, not as short as then. I shaved my head that spring.

Anyway, my braids from hell are gone.

Hairdresser looked shocked when I showed him what I wanted, but then he started to cut and after a while I got what I asked for. Well, he didn't dare to cut the hair as short as I wanted it to be, but it is short now anyway. I am glad that untamed monster hair is gone.

Green Spots

Today we rode our bicycles to a playground we hadn't been to before. This Ladie's Powder Room was there by the park.

Now that we have bikes, it's easier to explore surrounding areas. Usually we pick a green spot on a map and ride there. And often there is a playground at that spot.

Possible Heaven

M has promised to wake up with the kid tomorrow morning and I am allowed to sleep as long as I want to. Heaven!!!

I bet I'll wake up even before the kid wakes up.

Cider meets Condensed Milk

This meeting is as expected in my books as 'Herring meets Chocolate Ice Cream'. I didn't buy the product.

I've Become Shallow

I read Orham Pamuk's 'My Name Is Red'. It was a well written story about long-ago romance and a murder. I noticed I've become less patient to read such books. And I used to think "Crime and Punishment" was light reading.

Shouldn't we become wiser and more profound by the years we live?

OK - being a mum sort of takes away parts of your intellect and brain capasity. I should ponder upon this again when the kid is older and I am back in the business.

Amused Bicycle Sellers

Today we bought bicycles. The man in the shop spoke only Japanese. We managed to buy 2 bikes and get the man to attached kid's seat on another with our unexisting Japanese. A younger guy came to help after a while. He spoke english and he started translating. When the older guy was working on a bike, the younger guy asked him something and got an answer "Nihongo" (japanese). By their amusement I guessed that the younger guy asked what language we used before he came. I too thought it was funny but I didn't tell them.

Masks

Today at a playground a japanese mother talked to me in english. She was nice and I wouldn't mind talking to her again (there aren't that many english speaking mothers around), but I have no idea if I could recognise her again. She was wearing a white mask, the kind people wear here if they have a cold. I guess I will be able to tell it's her by looking at her kid.

Quiet House

Our guests are sitting on a plane to Finland. It was fun to have them here and now our home feels suddenly very quiet, though we still have an expressive little boy here loudly objecting everything.

After roaming around Tokyo (and bit of Kyoto too) for two weeks with two 2 years old I can say that Tokyo is fun with kids. The only shadow side is that quite a many subway and railway stations have no elevator. The pram is about to fall apart after all that dragging up and down stairs.

Sakura Hysteria

We went to a park during the worst sakura hysteria. The park was growded. The best part of that visit was a group of Elvis look-a-likes dancing in a circle (sorry, no picture included).
